Elder Committees

Our Elder team is forming new committees to work alongside them in different aspects of governance here at NLCC.

Our Discernment Committee (already affirmed by the membership at our AGM in June) will be accepting recommendations of NLCC members to join the following committees:


Stewardship

The Stewardship Committee will oversee the development of the annual budget(s) of the church, as well as determine fiscal policies and oversee their application for NLCC's ministries and operations, ensuring that current CRA regulations are adhered to.
Members of this committee will ensure that biblical principles of stewardship and giving are taught and encouraged. Identifying and overseeing financial strategies for funding capital projects, mission projects, and various other special projects as directed by the elders will also be done by this committee, as well as reviewing financial reports and making recommendations to the Elders for action as required.

Members of the Stewardship Committee shall meet deacon character qualifications, and have business and financial expertise.

This committee will be comprised of:
1. The Elder Treasurer
2. The Executive Pastor
3. The Director of Finance
4. At least three (3) NLCC Members


Personnel

The Personnel Committee will develop and oversee policies related to staff and employee management, compensation and benefit plans, and ensure coordination of regular employee evaluations. Members of this committee will oversee the creation of new pastoral staff positions and job descriptions to the board of elders, and participate in pastoral staff selection. Ensuring a high morale of the staff team is being facilitated will also be part of the mandate for this committee, including job satisfaction, workload, life balance, and personal integrity.

Members of the Personnel Committee shall meet deacon character qualifications, and have experience in employment, HR, and personnel issues.

This committee will be comprised of:
1. An Elder
2. The Executive Pastor
3. At three to five (3-5) NLCC Members

Risk Management

The Risk Management Committee will annually review the Constitution, Bylaws, Operating Policies, and other policies of NLCC, as well as regularly reviewing NLCC's insurance coverage. Members of this committee will oversee the development of improved risk management procedures, and will ensure staff compliance with these procedures, including issues of security and safety. Compliance with all regulatory requirements and implementation of best practices recommended by denominational leadership and the Canadian Council of Christian Charities will also be a mandate for this committee.

Members of the Risk Management Committee shall meet deacon character qualifications, and have experience in identifying and managing risk in professional and other contexts.

This committee will be comprised of:
1. An Elder
2.The Executive Pastor
3. At least two (2) NLCC Members


Development

The Development Committee will respond to facility expansion and renovation needs, as identified by the Lead Team and affirmed by the Board of Elders. Members of this committee will develop, plan, and oversee any and all construction and renovation projects, as well as NLCC facility use policies.

Members of the Development Committee shall meet deacon character qualifications, and have experience in building, construction, project managing, and development.

This committee will be comprised of:
1. An Elder
2. The Executive Pastor
3. The Chairperson of the Facilities Team
4. At least two (2) NLCC Members
