Upward 01

Upward Basketball was a 10-week league which saw 66 girls and boys in grades one to five learn basketball skills and learn about Jesus. Virtues of honour, endurance and faith were presented to the kids over the 10 weeks, while weekly speakers on game days talked to spectators about how their faith in God intersected with their day-to-day life.
Upward Basketball provided NLCC with an opportunity for volunteers from youth through adults to serve as prayer partners, coaches, referees, photographers, and more. It was a practical way to put faith into action and make a positive influence for Christ in the lives of children and families. It is estimated that approximately 25% were not connected to a Christian church.

A finale celebration was held on Sunday, June 9, which saw over 180 people in attendance! Entertainment was provided, door prizes were awarded, and the gospel message was shared. By all indications, everyone had a great time! The 66 athletes were thrilled to each receive their own basketball as a parting award. We would love to see Upward Basketball continue again next year! We will be looking for volunteers who have a desire to see the children in our community learn about Christ through basketball.

This coming Saturday, June 15th, the Children’s Ministry department is hosting a Party in the Park. This party gives us an opportunity to celebrate the amazing volunteers who have loved kids and shared the love of Jesus with them each week at both our Yorkson and Walnut Grove campuses. This party is also a time for our kids and their families to come together and share fun and food together in community. This past year has been an exciting year in NLCC Kids as we have seen a weekly attendance of approximately 300 kids come and experience the life-changing power of Jesus Christ. We have lots of reasons to celebrate and so we are ready for a great Party in the Park on Saturday at Williams Park!
