"Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper."

    ~ Jeremiah 29:7

So many people know all too well what they perceive the church to be against; so anytime the church can play an active role to show what it is for is a good thing!

  • In our day, the Internet makes all kinds of claims and ideas available to us, each one wilder or more innovative than the one before. Perhaps, like me, you've felt overwhelmed when you scroll through your social media feed and see friends, from the past or the present, posting articles or expressing thoughts that push the boundaries of what you believe to be true, spiritually or even politically.

After eight months of being on NLCC staff, I feel very much at home with 'family'! During these past months, I have been reflecting on the meaning behind each banner that represents the core values of NLCC. As the Children's Pastor, with responsibility for the youngest of our 'family', I have an overwhelming desire to fully understand what these banners mean, and intentionally work them into our children's ministry.

Each morning this week, the staff have gathered to pray for MOVE camp leaders (especially Michelle Renaud, our camps director!) and for the various needs that arise each day. God is answering prayers! Over 100 small group leaders have stepped up to love kids - but we still need 2 MORE SMALL GROUP LEADERS! There are 2 groups of young boys that are still without a committed leader!

According to the most recent census data, a little over 67% of Canadians identify themselves as Christian. Yet other surveys indicate that at most 25% of Canadians regularly participate in Christian religious services. This would seem to indicate some confusion over what being a Christian really means.

What does it mean to fully trust God with everything? I mean, over the course of my life I have gained somewhat of a grasp on what it looks like, but I am continually realizing that trusting God with everything doesn't simply get easier over time. This year, and specifically these last few weeks, have been a reminder of this - trusting God is a practice that continually needs revisiting.

Worrying is such an easy thing to do but also such a worthless thing to do. Worrying accomplishes nothing, it's completely unproductive and is really only destructive.

    "Now listen, you rich people!"
(OK James... you have our attention.)
Tanya and I have been part of the same amazing life group for 7 years.  It's been a fantastic journey that has involved deep Biblical discussion, worship, prayer, food, and the simple sharing of life with one another.  On Monday night we gathered together to continue our study in the book of James.  And here is an excerpt from the passage we studied:

I have always been a little mistrustful of formulas, especially when it comes to our Christian faith.

However the other day in my devotions, I came across Philippians 4 and I thought to myself, "Hmmm...Cory, this seems like a pretty good formula for you when it comes to experiencing peace!"

A few years ago, I (Joel) went out for coffee with Pastor Matthew in order for us to get to know one another better. Little did I know, it was in that discussion that the topic of the Wellspring Foundation's work in Rwanda came about and God stirred a passion in my heart. I came home that evening and called Amy at work exclaiming, "That was the best $25 in babysitting I have ever spent."  Why?
