On January 31, 1957, the Governor General of Canada issued a proclamation stating: "A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed – to be observed on the 2nd Monday in October.” So in keeping with this 60-year-old Canadian decree, we traditionally pass a question around the...

I turned my head and saw yet another wisp of smoke on its way to nothingness: a solitary person, completely alone-no children, no family, no friends-yet working obsessively late into the night, compulsively greedy for more and more, never bothering to ask, "Why am I working like a dog, never having any fun? And who cares?" More smoke. A bad...

If you were at church this past Sunday, you may have heard Matthew sharing the story about how he was “air-banding” (singing and playing drums silently) in between my contractions during labour with our first child Lucy!  Not one of his finest moments to be sure, but it was indeed the start of an amazing journey into parenthood...

    Hey Friends,

As some of you may have heard, this summer I had the amazing opportunity to spend a couple weeks in Rwanda as a part of a Youth Unlimited program called the Elevation Experience. I had the privilege of co-leading a team of 15 students that are just beginning to explore what it means to step out of their  comfort zones  and...

"Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper."

    ~ Jeremiah 29:7

So many people know all too well what they perceive the church to be against; so anytime the church can play an active role to show what it is for is a good thing!

  • In our day, the Internet makes all kinds of claims and ideas available to us, each one wilder or more innovative than the one before. Perhaps, like me, you've felt overwhelmed when you scroll through your social media feed and see friends, from the past or the present, posting articles or expressing thoughts that push the boundaries of what you believe to be true, spiritually or even politically.

After eight months of being on NLCC staff, I feel very much at home with 'family'! During these past months, I have been reflecting on the meaning behind each banner that represents the core values of NLCC. As the Children's Pastor, with responsibility for the youngest of our 'family', I have an overwhelming desire to fully understand what these banners mean, and intentionally work them into our children's ministry.

Each morning this week, the staff have gathered to pray for MOVE camp leaders (especially Michelle Renaud, our camps director!) and for the various needs that arise each day. God is answering prayers! Over 100 small group leaders have stepped up to love kids - but we still need 2 MORE SMALL GROUP LEADERS! There are 2 groups of young boys that are still without a committed leader!

According to the most recent census data, a little over 67% of Canadians identify themselves as Christian. Yet other surveys indicate that at most 25% of Canadians regularly participate in Christian religious services. This would seem to indicate some confusion over what being a Christian really means.

What does it mean to fully trust God with everything? I mean, over the course of my life I have gained somewhat of a grasp on what it looks like, but I am continually realizing that trusting God with everything doesn't simply get easier over time. This year, and specifically these last few weeks, have been a reminder of this - trusting God is a practice that continually needs revisiting.
