FAQs about our new name project, launching in September 2026.

Why are we changing our name?

In one word: mission. For almost 40 years, our church has been known by a name that represents our story and identity. But in recent years, God in his grace has grown our church beyond the borders of North Langley. We are now in a new chapter with four campuses, and we believe Jesus is trusting us to share his good news in neighbourhoods beyond our own.

As we thought through what it means to be on mission, our team slowly discerned that a new name was important. This isn't about us. It's about the neighbourhoods God is calling us to reach with the Gospel.

What was the process of the name change?

Choosing a new name took over year and a half of brainstorming, surveying, and discernment. We held information-gathering meetings with key church members, worked with a company that specializes in helping churches rename and refresh visuals, surveyed our staff along with over 200 key members and volunteer leaders, and our elder board spent significant time praying, discussing, and discerning.

Why the name Christ Church?

We landed on “Christ Church” because Christ is one of the most beautiful titles given to Jesus. It means Anointed One, or Messiah, the name of our King. The name is simple enough for our secular cities to understand, and it reveals who we belong to. Christ Church carries the idea that we are one family, one body, and one community, with Christ as the head.

This is reflected in 1 Corinthians 12:27, which says, “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” Our four campuses are the body of Christ. Like a body with many parts, each of us is gifted uniquely and plays a distinct role as part of that body, with Christ as the head.

We want Jesus to be the centre of who we are, and this name makes it clear that we are a church that wants Jesus to be King. It keeps us from trying to be flashy, gimmicky, or overly trendy. Instead, it sends a simple message to the neighbourhoods where our campuses are located: we are all about Christ.

What is the timeline?

We will officially transition to Christ Church in early September 2026. Until then, we will remain North Langley Community Church.

What is changing, and what is not?

What's changing is our name, and what’s not changing is who we are and why we exist. Our core beliefs and values stay the same. We are all about connecting people with the life-changing power of Jesus Christ, to love God and love others. We are a church on our knees, living the gospel, with shared lives, through generous love, across all our campuses.

How will this impact the life of our church?

This change is ultimately about mission. Christ Church will carry the idea that we are one family, one body, and one community across all four campuses, with Christ as the head. Practically, this means our campuses, our shared identity, and our sense of being one church in multiple neighbourhoods will be clarified and strengthened by a name that everyone, including our secular communities, can immediately understand.

As a church on mission beyond the borders of North Langley, our hope is that this name will help every campus and every member see themselves as a vital part of one body, uniquely gifted and uniquely placed, while Christ remains the centre.

What is the meaning behind the new logo?

The logo represents a cross-centred community. Each node around the outside of the shape can represent an individual, apprentice group, life group, ministry, or campus, all gathered around the love of Christ (as represented by the cross shape in the middle). The new logo reflects our value of living the gospel with shared lives.
