Luke 24:1-8
The Gospel as Fairy Tale

All fairy tales, from Cinderella to The Wizard of Oz to Lord of the Rings, all have two things in common: they all have a battle between good and evil, and in the end, transformation always takes place. The frog turns into a prince, the beast turns back into a man, and the princess finally wakes up after years of slumber.

Frederick Buechner writes

“The Gospel is this victory of light over darkness. This fairy tale has, of course, one crucial difference from all other fairy tales, and that is it is true indeed, and not only happened once upon a time but has kept on happening ever since and is happening still.”

The resurrection is at the heart of the Christian faith because if true, it can transform us forever.
