We are usually inclined to think of confession from an individualistic viewpoint - how "I have sinned." But Scripture also describes the corporate dimensions of sin - ways that we sin together, and create systems that enable and protect these ways of sinning together. "Walking in the light" includes telling the truth about this corporate aspect of sin as well - how "we have sinned" - and actively turning away to new, more redemptive patterns of thought, word, and action.
